Topic: Windows 7

Does anybody using the final version of Windows 7 RTM know what the complete list of software from the ASUS website is required to run all the hardware that comes on the N10J.

Example would be the software and drivers to run the fingerprint program, the built in camera, and anything else that needs to be activated.  Also the Function buttons in blue on the keyboard.  I have noticed that the blue keys for the volume don't work.

Thank you.

Re: Windows 7

Do a search for HControl.exe on your system when you have installed the vista version of the drivers. Double click on it to start it up then add them to the startup tab in start menu, The hotkeys will now work.

Re: Windows 7

As for the other drivers I used most of the Vista ones in compatibility mode and got the fingerprint from MS update

Re: Windows 7

The only driver that works on the ASUS.com website that works is the "Synaptics Pointing Device."

NOT ONE OF THE OTHER DRIVERS WORKED AT ALL!!!!!       mad

Windows 7 looks good but if I can't use all the features of my computer what good is it to me?

Do you have the Vista driver disk to hand? When you put it in the drive explore the disk and right click on setup.exe - troubleshoot compatibility - then troubleshoot program - click the first option - then select win vista SP1 then click next and start the program.

That is how i got the drivers installed on mine.

Yep indeed we will.

I remember on one of my old laptops (cant remember which tho) that the manufacturer did not release vista drivers for about 6 months after Vista came out.
So I only had the basics like sound and gpu. things that didnt work were the hotkeys and ethernet, wifi and printer etc.
I ended up just going back to XP and waiting for them to release Vista drivers.

At least with win7 95% of the drivers released for Vista *should* work in theory

Re: Windows 7

Speaking as someone using the final of Win7, almost everything is handled with the built in drivers.

Even the fingerprint reader is covered.  No need to install anything else to setup fingerprint login.

One thing to keep in mind.  Depending on your configuration (I have an SSD), ExpressGate WILL NOT INSTALL if you do not change the size of the system partition that Win7 may set up.  I believe this is only on a clean install with an SSD.  If the system partition is not increased from the default 100Mb to 400-500Mb, Expressgate will not install correctly.

Other than that little annoyance, Win7 is AMAZING on the N10J.  Fast, rock solid, easy to use.  Very good job, MS.

Re: Windows 7

Only question is gaming performance. I love the final build of Win7 on my PC. Thinking about it on my N10.
