Who will prove it working? Too big risk. Anything else added? But new bios is good. On what original bios is it based?

Re: ASUS N10 overclocked gpu and SLIC 2.1 signed BIOS by Veisen

I am realy tempted to try this... but if it is not working, I won't be able to go back to my old bios, since easyflash wont work either...as a matter of fact, my system only waits for me to press enter, and allow the update. What if this can fix the return-from-sleep hangups? Okay, here it goes, worst case, Im learning a lesson about internet and random bioses big_smile

Okay, new BIOS defeneetly boots up, so I can go back to 218 if I dont like it, so worth a try so far big_smile
In fact, it boots up faster. Dont know if it is because the new BIOS, or because I didnt wait for weeks between restarts.
GPU-Z reports 630/1550/530 on my N10jc (with 2GB RAM, so technically an N10Ja). Win7 is original, so cannot test if it realy bypasses any genuine checks. Next test is battery big_smile

Re: ASUS N10 overclocked gpu and SLIC 2.1 signed BIOS by Veisen

Just to set the record straight
The BIOS posted at the top of the list works perfectly...

Here are the exact instructions to follow to successfully flash the new modified BIOS

  1. Download the bios listed at the top of the page.

  2. Download this Special version of AFlash2 IMPORTANT DO NOT USE ASUS' ONE

  3. Create a MS-DOS based boot disk click here for usb/cd/floppy boot disk

  4. Copy both the BIOS & AFlash2 to the boot disk

  5. When booted from boot disk type "AFlash2 /all"

  6. Select option "2"... enter BIOS file name and hit "Enter"... Type "Y" to flash

  7. Boot back into Windows Vista/Windows 7

  8. Download SLIC Dump Tool

  9. Run the tool and make sure you get similar results to the image below.

  10. http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/6512/slicl.jpg

  11. Open a administrative command prompt [Start->Run->CMD]

  12. Type "slmgr -ilc X:\Location to File\Cert.xrm-ms" hit "Enter" and wait for confirmation.

  13. Type "slmgr -ipk XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXX-XXXX"  hit "Enter" and wait for confirmation.

  14. Type "slmgr -dli" hit "Enter" and wait for confirmation similar the image below.

Does it work well with CPU overclocking?

So far, so good, At 2.0GHz it is still stable with some light gaming after 2 hours (StarWars:JA). The battery seems to hold up, only lost about 15-20 mins. The hangup on return from sleep is still there touth. I'd give up on any OC just to fix that one... hmm

Can you test 2.0ghz with prime95? Better yet, can you test it with AtiTools artifact scanner or OCCT's gputest (while CPU @ 2.0ghz)?
My computer is stable at 2.08ghz but whenever I OC the gpu at this clock I start to get artifacts, so I wonder if it's still artifact free with OC.

Prime95 with AtiTools Atrifact-test at 2.0GHz went for about an hour, in the end I got bored before the system gave in, so the results: at the first 3 minutes it was throwing artifacts like crazy, about every 5 sec. After that however it all went smooth, no error, no BSOD. When I'll have more time, I might leave the test going for a few hours, but I rarely play for more than an hour in one go, so this is already fine for me big_smile.

Re: ASUS N10 overclocked gpu and SLIC 2.1 signed BIOS by Veisen

Hi to all. Can I participate in this discussion?  cool
First: the idea is good, but the realisation is a bit difficult. I mean all of this (doing mod, installation via non-asus utility etc.) is only for overclocked GPU and Windows 7 support? There is another simple way to OC GPU (if u really need it):
see my post about nVidia drivers for GeForce 9300 Series
http://www.n10user.com/viewtopic.php?id=1283
This installation gives you possibility to OC GPU via NVIDIA's Control Panel (sry, some options on russian, couse I'm using russian drivers):
http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/586/ … panelt.jpg
So, u can OC it as u want.
Second: are u have some problems with hangup after hybernating on Vista? Install the latest ATK+Power4Gear Hybrid from
http://www.asus.com/support/download
Just switch: Notebooks -> G71 Series -> G71Gx (one of the latest Asus's Notes) -> Windows 7 and then download all ATK and P4G (from utilities). First, uninstall your current P4G. Second, install all ATK. Make sure, that all of your LAN and Wi-Fi devices work properly. Then, install new Power4Gear Hybrid.
This will give you an improvement in bootup speed and in returning from hybernating/sleep modes.
PS: the Turbo mode is working.

Well most of us with Original N10J's are a little pissed off that we don't qualify for the free windows 7 update (only the new models do)... so this mod has been in the workings by many people for some time.

What this mod does other than the GFX improvement is provide the ability to install Windows 7 and have it properly activated using SLP (without the use of cracks and other workarounds).

If anyone needs any help with this mod PM me and I'll do my best to help.

ASUS: Service Unavailable - Well, thats a nice way of support, yeah! yikes

Okay, I've reinstalled all the ATK stuff with P4G, but no change in return from sleep time: over 2 mins(!) average.

Can you play with the FSB:DRAM or voltage settings from the BIOS?
If you can, can you make a bios with a FSB:DRAM ratio of 2:3 or 3:5? Maybe we can reach higher OC speeds if the RAM stops failing everytime.

Re: ASUS N10 overclocked gpu and SLIC 2.1 signed BIOS by Veisen

Well, I gave it a shot.  I did not have the OEM version installed, so the CERT gave me an error.   That's easy to fix as there are tons of utilities out there that will inject the correct cert for it.  "Windows 7 loader" will do it under the Advanced Options.

People think that the only reason you would do something like this is piracy.  Maybe that's true for alot of people, but I can tell you I ran a hacked version of Vista and I have several copies shrink wrapped at my house.

Why?  Because MS is a pain in the ass.  I understand they need to protect the product, but every time they protect their stuff, it becomes a pain for me.

I install, reinstall, screw around with my system all the time.  I have installed Vista/Office/etc I got sick of calling MS to say "Yes, its only installed on one system" if I used the wrong copy with that particular system.  I am sick of having to make sure all my copies are matched to the systems I have.

So now I have a box with all my legal copies of Vista, Office, and now Win7 sitting in a closet and can install all I want without needed to open each one up and so on.  SO much easier for me.

There are lots of reasons to want to bypass their piracy crap, but please people, buy the damn thing.  Windows 7 is awesome and worth the money.

Re: ASUS N10 overclocked gpu and SLIC 2.1 signed BIOS by Veisen

After a week I went back to 218. The improvement in graphic performance was good, but I like it switcheable, and an overclocked BIOS is not the way for that. Also I has a legal copy of Win7, so I don't need the w7crack par either. I think there were some overheating issues as well, but I'm partly at fault here, gaming on the sofa can do that, and the GPU being OCed was just too much. No HW error thou, the system simply hybernated itself after reaching critical temperature (was set at 55°C for the HDD). And the final blow: I usually play old games with little HW reqs, so OCint for Q3, CS1.6 etc. is kinda pointless...
