Topic: Windows 7 Install - Found Fix for Volume and Mute FN Hotkeys
I recently purchased a N10J and installed the Windows 7 RC (build 7100). I’m not very tech savy but overall it went smooth. To install it I burnt a DVD out of the ISO, copied the DVD files onto a 8GB usb thumb drive, and executed a clean-wipe install with the default Vista OS loaded. It went great. After having done the install and searching online a lot for some driver problems, I think this guide (http://www.thetechguide.com/reviews/asus-n10j.html) is really thorough and great.
I wanted to share a problem I was having with my volume up, volume down, and mute FN keys. I installed the Vista drivers and it didn’t work. I installed the XP drivers and it didn’t work. The website I posted above had the fix:
“To get the Hotkeys to work, you must download the ATK_Hotkey Utility from Asus's site, install, then add a registry entry to get the Hotkey program to start at each boot. The program is C:\Program Files\ASUS\ATK Hotkey\HControl.exe, and here's a reg file that will automatically add it for you (program must already be installed, this only adds it to your startup list): http://downloads.thetechguide.com/n10j/hotkeys.reg”
I hope this post helps others that encountered this problem. I’m an avid FFXI player and recently got it to work on my N10. I’ll make another post about it shortly.
