Topic: PRoblem with Bios upgrade after V209 and display problems

Guru's

I need some help with regards to my Asus N10j laptop. When I try to upgrade the bios version from 209 to any other higher version the display stretches. (even the splash screen stretches, windows.) This happens when I cold start the system. I have to force shutdown by powering off the comp and restart it works fine with proper splash screen resolution. This happens every time I cold start the system. I have to revert back to Ver 209 and unable to upgrade to higher versions. Any recommendation is appreciated. The tech support guys are idiots and can't answer my problem.

Also, I am unable to use HDMI on the onboard intel display. Is this normal?? Weird problems with display when playing adobe flash movies or players. Lot of jerk movements in video. Please get back to me with recommendations or fixes regarding these problems.

Re: PRoblem with Bios upgrade after V209 and display problems

The stretching, does it also happen once you're inside your full OS, or only on the BIOS/start-up screens? To what version of BIOS where you upgrading?

Your other two problems, I'm afraid there aren't any real solution there. HDMI indeed does not work on the Intel IGP, because there isn't a hardware link built from the chipset to the HDMI port (and that's because the Intel 945GSE-chipset doesn't support HDMI output, why do you think there are so few netbooks with HDMI?).

The jerky motion in flash movies is caused by the high load these movies put on the CPU, and the Atom is a very weak beast when it comes to raw power. You could try OC'ing your CPU to 1.9~2.0Ghz, which solves lots of jerkiness problems for me (see the crazy amount of topics on this forum, especially Rich's guide and Draves' cool app!). The other solution is for you to wait on the GPU-support that Adobe is building into it's Flash Player. Two weeks ago, Adobe and nVidia anounced they're working on Flash GPU-acceleration, which would fix all our Flash-problems in one sweep, as the 9300M has more than enough power to even play 2 1080p-flash movies!

A: Yes!! I tried upgrading to the 2 new versions 212, 213 and 214. None of the higher versions works fine on mine because of the screen resolution on both the splash screen and in OS. Mind it this happens only on a cold start. This skews everything. I can't change resolution or control windows. I have to force shutdown by powering off and then restarting. then the resolution sets right. I tried contacting the tech support and they are bunch of shmucks. They don't know anything and responded back stating problem unknown. I need a way to get this fixed and upgrade to the newest bios version. Any help is highly appreciated. roll

Re: PRoblem with Bios upgrade after V209 and display problems

It's actually weird you get this with the higher BIOS's only, as it's only from 212 on that they've fixed the skewing problem. I have this problem with every BIOS up to 212, from then on it was normal again.

But still, I really don't see the problem actually. If it's normal again as soon as you're in your OS, you can work with the machine now can you? And the BIOS being stretched and skewed and stuff, why would you care? It's not like there are much options in the BIOS to fiddle with. Unless there's some aspect of your problem I don't quite understand, I don't see the real problem.

And furthermore: If the problem only occurs on newer BIOS's, why are you so eager to use them? The new BIOS's aren't that much better, and for you they apparantly introduce more problems. So why not stay on the 'old' ones? There are lot's of people on this forum that stay on v208 because it's the only one that doesn't black-screen while using the Intel card...

Re: PRoblem with Bios upgrade after V209 and display problems

I am still facing this issue with the newer bios version 218. I had to revert back to 209 again. Why is this happening with this laptop. It works fine for the first time I upgrade the bios either from bios upgrade or through OS. On cold start (i.e let the computer sit for couple of hours and then start) the splash screen is stretched and the whole display is out of shape. This does not happen with Ver 209.

Is it only my system this is happening and are there no solutions to get this resolved?? I am really frustrated with this and Asus tech support sucks big time man. It looks like I can't use any updates going forth.

Also, can someone post the bios version 209 since I lost that file in formatting and its not there online. Please mail it to cnplkart@yahoo.com. thanks!!

Regarding this issue someone please help me to get this bios upgrade issue resolved. please

Re: PRoblem with Bios upgrade after V209 and display problems

One of the most common mistakes women make is to put their purse on the floor when they go to a restaurant. They assume that if they set the bag at their feet, they will not have to worry about anyone grabbing it or kicking it. This is not a good idea becauseclothesthe floor is filled with germs and dirt. The bottom of your bag can become easily contaminated. The harsh chemicals that are used to clean the floor can also cause damage to your bag. It is a good idea to get a weighted purse hook to use when you go to a restaurant.
